The Emergency Center is located on the first floor, next to the Pavilion. Services include behavioral health, chest pain, intermediate care, major care, fast track and Level 1 trauma care. The population served are all individuals seeking emergency medical evaluation typically due to a sudden and serious illness or injury. This unit is a designated Level 1 Trauma Center, Primary Stroke Center and Level 1 SANE/FNE Program.
25-bed unit located on floor four in the main building. The primary population served is medical-surgical adult patients with a specialty in gastrointestinal diseases that may require telemetry monitoring.
27-bed unit located on the fifth floor of the main building. This unit primarily serves patients with acute and chronic renal failure.
28-bed unit located on the third floor of Montgomery Tower. This unit primarily serves medical and surgical adult patients, with a specialized focus on urology and gynecologic surgery.
28-bed unit located on the fourth floor of Montgomery Tower. This unit primarily serves patients undergoing general surgery, those requiring telemetry, post-traumatic injury care/surgery and individuals with various medical conditions.
25-bed unit located on the third floor of the main building. This unit primarily serves adult patients with medical needs, particularly those requiring post-traumatic injury care for an extended period.
The 30-bed unit located on the first floor of the Gibbs Cancer Center is dedicated to serving patients with hematology-oncology conditions. This unit offers a comprehensive range of services, including palliative support, therapeutic and diagnostic care, as well as oncology surgeries.
12-bed unit located on the third floor of the main building. Population served is birth to 17 with respiratory illnesses, diabetes, orthopedic injuries, seizures and general surgery. When hospital census indicates, adults may be admitted based on the adult admission guidelines for the Pediatric Unit.
This 28-bed unit is located on the fifth floor in Montgomery Tower. The unit primarily serves postpartum patients and newborns, in addition to serving low-risk antepartum patients. This unit is designated as Baby Friendly and holds Safe Sleep Certification.
4-bed unit located on the third floor of the main building. The populations served are pediatric patients with respiratory distress or failure, DKA or trauma-related injuries.
The NICU contains 35 Level III licensed neonatal beds and is located on the second floor adjacent to the second floor Montgomery Tower. The population served is from birth to neonatal discharge. Specially-trained registered nurses provide the coordination of 24-hour care for infants who have complications after birth, including prematurity, low birth weight, sepsis, congenital anomalies and other conditions related to birth.
14-bed unit located on the second floor in the Montgomery Tower with three surgery suites, four recovery bays and two pre-op bays. The unit provides care for both low- and high-risk laboring patients. As a Level III Perinatal center, the unit also provides care for antepartum patients, premature and high-risk cases.
6-bed Obstetric Emergency Department located on the second floor in the Montgomery Tower. The population served includes pregnant females with obstetric concerns at any gestation.
24-bed adult intensive care nursing unit located on the fourth floor of the Pavilion. The primary populations served are patients with life- threatening pulmonary/medical illnesses requiring critical care, medical and nursing management.
22-bed intensive care unit located on the fifth floor of the Pavilion. The primary population served is patients with multiple traumas, complex abdominal surgery, traumatic brain injury, CVA and severe neurological deficit.
22-bed stepdown level unit located on the sixth floor of the Pavilion. The primary populations served are pulmonary and medical patients requiring cardiac monitoring and/or high rates of oxygen and CVA / TIA patients who have received thrombolytic therapy.
28-bed unit on the sixth floor of Montgomery Tower. The unit primarily serves patients requiring surgical interventions, including but not limited to weight loss surgery, reconstructive surgery and trauma surgery.
28-bed unit on the seventh floor of Montgomery Tower. The unit primarily serves patients with traumatic orthopedic injuries requiring surgical intervention, as well as neurosurgery patients.
28-bed unit on the eighth floor of Montgomery Tower. The unit primarily serves patients with neurological deficits, traumatic brain injuries, cerebrovascular accidents (CVA), transient ischemic attacks (TIA) and those requiring neurosurgery. Additionally, this unit accommodates overflow patients with fractures, traumatic injuries and total joint replacements.
Located on the second floor of the Main Building, directly adjacent to Surgery. The main recovery area has 26 bays. The population served is all patients who have had surgery or been anesthetized except for CABG and neonatal patients. Additional cases include endoscopy, MRI, Laser Lead Extractions, blood patch, TEE, Cardioversion, CT and IR cases.
Located on the third floor of the Physician’s Center. Populations served include patients preparing for surgery and optimization, interventional radiology, endoscopy and cath lab for Church Street and Mary Black campuses.
Surgery unit located on the second floor of the main building. There are 17 peri-op operating rooms, two cystoscopy suites, three open heart surgery suites and one minor procedure room. The population served is patients requiring surgical procedures except for pediatric cardiac and organ transplant procedures.
Types of surgical procedures performed include open heart, neuro, minimal invasive and advanced laparoscopy, general, trauma, pediatric, orthopedics, urology, gynecology, ENT, plastics, vascular, vascular access and robotics.

The Pre-Operative (Pre-Op) Unit is a clinical area designed to receive and prepare patients prior to surgical or procedural interventions. Pre-Op is located on the second floor of the main building adjacent to the operating room. The Pre-Op area has 27 patient bays equipped with monitors, call systems and medical supplies. The population served includes inpatients and outpatients arriving for surgery, excluding patients who are in intensive care.
The Second Stage Recovery Unit, also referred to as Phase II, is located inside the Pre-Op unit. This is a specialized area where patients recover following the initial post-operative recovery period (Phase I). The primary focus is facilitating patient comfort, mobility and preparing the patient for discharge home.

Six endoscopic procedure rooms located on the fourth floor in the Regional Outpatient Center. The populations served are patients with upper/lower GI dysfunctions, pulmonary dysfunctions, therapeutic and screening procedures.
32-bed cardiovascular surgery progressive care stepdown unit located on the fourth floor of the Heart Center. The primary population is post-surgical treatment of cardiac and thoracic diagnosis.
32-bed coronary care progressive care stepdown unit located on the fifth floor of the Heart Center. The primary populations served are adult patients with cardiac arrhythmias/conduction disorders, cardiac insufficiency and post-surgical/nonsurgical cardiac interventions.
32-bed unit on the fifth floor of the main building primarily serving adult patients with vascular injuries requiring surgical or medical interventions. Additionally, this unit provides care for patients with neurological dysfunction.
12-bed unit located on the sixth floor of the main building, which may be opened as an overflow unit to support capacity. The primary populations served are adult patients needing medical/surgical care and/or telemetry.
10-bed critical care unit located on the second floor of the Heart Center. The primary populations served are patients with myocardial infarctions, heart failure, respiratory failure, multi-organ system failure, cardiac arrest, sepsis, TAVR, Mitraclip and other cath/EP lab and structural heart procedures.

This procedural area is equipped with three interventional cardiac cath labs, two electrophysiology labs and one hybrid lab. The primary populations served are those who present with acute myocardial infarction, acute coronary syndrome, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation and structural heart conditions.
22-bed unit located on the sixth floor of the main building. The primary populations served are adults who present to the EC with an acute illness for which a complete evaluation and/or treatment is performed as an observation status.

Spartanburg Medical Center - Services

The lactation staff are registered nurses who have specialized training and credentials in lactation care and management. The lactation staff assists with inpatients primarily on 5 Tower (mother/baby), NICU, L&D and pediatric patients. The lactation department also provides outpatient services in the form of telephone encounters, outpatient appointments and telehealth visits. This service is part of the Baby Friendly Designation.
A grant-funded home visitation program for first-time mothers who are less than 28-weeks’ gestation and utilize Medicaid services.
The Venous Access Team (VAT) registered nurse provides insertion and management of peripheral vascular access and defined extended intravenous lines.
The Hyperbaric Oxygen Unit serves adult patients who meet the criteria for hyperbaric oxygen treatment.
The Inpatient Wound Team develops care plans and makes appropriate recommendations for complex and minor wounds. The team provides system-wide education on pressure injury prevention, organizes system-wide skin-related prevalence surveys and is a resource for skin and related wound support.
The Heart Failure Center provides evidence-based heart failure management to monitor and support quality of life and prevent hospital readmissions.
The Heart Wellness program provides outpatient cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation and medically supervised exercise therapy.
The Gibbs Infusion Center is a 28-chair outpatient unit located on the second floor of the Gibbs Cancer Center. The primary populations served are school age through adult who require intravenous therapy or injections.
A grant-funded program offered to all newborns’ primary caregivers who reside in the city of Spartanburg. A registered nurse will visit the home of the newborn and provide health checks for both the infant and the birth mother. These visits include assessing needs and offering supportive guidance on a wide variety of post-partum, child and infant health-related topics.

For more than 90 years, Spartanburg Medical Center - Mary Black Campus has provided healthcare to the Upstate. The 11-bed adult and crisis units located on floors five and six of the patient tower serve adult patients with various psychiatric illnesses. The 15-bed geriatric unit located on floor seven of the patient tower serves geriatric patients with various psychiatric illnesses.
18-bed intensive and progressive care unit located on the first floor. This unit has the capacity to provide intensive care and progressive medical-surgical telemetry care. The primary populations served are adult patients following complex surgical procedures and life-threatening medical-surgical and acute conditions.
18-bed orthopedic unit located on floor two of Pavilion. The unit provides nursing care to acute and chronically ill adult patients, with a primary focus on patients requiring elective orthopedic joint surgery or injuries requiring surgical intervention.
21-bed orthopedic unit located on floor three of Pavilion. The unit provides nursing care to chronically ill adult patients, with a primary focus on patients requiring elective joint orthopedic surgery or injuries requiring surgical intervention.
Surgical unit located on the first floor with nine operating suites, 16 preop and 17 PACU bays and a state-of-the-art SPD department. Surgeries include general, orthopedics (designated as an orthopedic center of excellence for hip/knee), ENT, urology, spine, plastics, robotics, gynecology and ocular/retina.

Primary populations served include general medical conditions including UTI, pneumonia, heart failure, hypo and hyperglycemia, electrolyte abnormalities and other general chronic and acute conditions, telemetry monitoring and post-op surgical care. The unit includes five hospice/respite care beds.

Perioperative consists of two preadmission testing rooms, nine preoperative bays, five operating rooms, two endoscopy rooms, one infusion bay and four recovery room bays. The primary populations served are medical/surgical adult patients, with a primary focus on patients requiring elective orthopedic/spine surgery or injuries requiring surgical intervention. This unit can provide remote telemetry in all 24 rooms. Additionally, peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis and IV chemo can be performed at the bedside.

Post-Acute Services

The Long-Term Acute Care Hospital consists of two medical-surgical units and is licensed for 97 acute-care beds. The facility includes a three-bed ICU or transitional unit. The hospital specializes in treating medically complex patients with the use of high technical modalities such as cardiac monitoring, advanced ventilator support, and multifaceted pharmacological and nutritional regimes.
25-bed facility specializing in short-term skilled nursing. Rehabilitation is provided for patients with diagnoses such as, but not limited to, aftercare joint replacement, traumatic fracture, surgery of the musculoskeletal system, as well as providing aftercare recovery post-complex hospitalization.
Medical services for patients who are homebound, under the care of a licensed physician and in need of a skilled service such as nursing; physical, occupational or speech therapy; or medical social work. Home Health is an alternative to repeated hospitalizations or an extended hospital stay. Working closely with the primary care provider, nurses and medical professionals provide care within the home, and via telemedicine. Spartanburg Regional Home Health serves Cherokee, Greenville, Spartanburg and Union counties.
Hospice provides expert medical care, pain management and emotional and spiritual support tailored to the patient’s wishes. This care may be provided in the home, in home-like settings such as assisted living and long-term care facilities, or in the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, a 15-bed inpatient hospice facility. Spartanburg Regional Hospice serves Cherokee, Greenville, Spartanburg and Union counties.
